About
Matt Wicks. Solution Architect at SSW, running the Newcastle office. I write here about CI/CD, DevOps, cloud-native architecture, and clean code, mostly the bits I had to learn the hard way.
I’ve shipped to ASX-listed clients across finance, engineering, and HR, plus more small businesses than I can count. Most of that work runs on Azure now. I’ve been on the Microsoft stack since .NET 2 was still in beta, which is either a credential or a confession depending on who’s asking.
A few things I believe:
- Right-click deploy is a relic. If your tests don’t gate the release, you don’t have tests.
- Clean Architecture is a tool, not a religion. Bring the right one to the job.
- DevOps isn’t a team or a job title. It’s how engineering is supposed to work.
- The first version of a pipeline is ugly. The second one is ugly too. The third one is where it starts earning its keep.
- Tenpin high game: 299. Still bothers me.
